Research

Optical frequency combs are most accurate and precise rulers in the earth. One of the most successful application of optical frequency comb is ultra-precise frequency measurements used for optical clocks. In addition, the applications of optical frequency combs have been extended, including ultra-precise distance measurement, ultra-fast Fourier-transform spectroscopy, ultra-low phase noise microwave generation etc. In our laboratory, we will develop next generation optical frequency combs and their applications for new “ultra”s.

Microresonator combs

Micreresonator combs are generated from ultra-high Q micro resonators and considered as one of the most important laser sources for the future integrated photonic circuits. In our laboratory, we work on fabrication, control, and applications of micro combs.

  • Mid-infrared combs

The wavelength of optical frequency combs is determined by the gain media of lasers, which is from 1 to 2 um for Er-fiber optical frequency combs. In our laboratory, we will generate mid-infrared combs with highly efficient wavelength conversion by using nonlinear waveguide crystals. In addition, the developed mid-infrared combs will be applied for sensing and medical fields.
